Service Description
The MAD Performance Academy is our flagship player development programme, designed for ambitious young hockey players who want to accelerate their development in a high-quality, supportive environment. Across four Performance Development Evenings, players will work with an experienced coaching team led by Dr Ieuan Davies alongside specialist coaches from across the game. Rather than simply attending another training session, players become part of a structured development programme built around the principles of Moving Ahead in Development. Every session has a clear purpose, helping players develop the technical, tactical, physical, sociological and psychological qualities needed to thrive on the pitch. What's included? ✔ Four Performance Development Evenings (2 hours on pitch) ✔ Small coaching ratios with specialist coaches ✔ Individual player development tracking throughout the programme ✔ Personal feedback to support long-term improvement ✔ Position-specific technical coaching ✔ Strength & Conditioning education and athletic development ✔ Decision-making and game understanding activities ✔ Competitive match-play in challenging learning environments ✔ Goalkeeper-specific coaching (where applicable) Throughout the programme, players may also benefit from additional learning opportunities including: • Video and game analysis • Performance psychology workshops • Athlete lifestyle and recovery education • Goal-setting and reflection activities These additional elements will be delivered where appropriate across the programme and are designed to help players better understand their own development beyond the training pitch. Who is this programme for? The Performance Academy is designed for committed U13 players who want to challenge themselves in a positive, high-performance environment. Players should already be playing club hockey and have a desire to improve through purposeful coaching, constructive feedback and regular reflection. Whether your goal is to become a more confident club player or progress towards representative hockey, the Academy provides the environment to help you take your next step. Why only four sessions? The Performance Academy complements, rather than replaces, club hockey. Each monthly session gives players clear coaching, individual feedback and development challenges to apply in their own training and matches before returning to build on their progress.
